Siliguri, 15th May: A major initiative has been taken to tackle the growing traffic congestion problem in Siliguri. A special team of skilled traffic police personnel from Kolkata will arrive in the city next week and work alongside the local traffic police to improve traffic management.
The initiative is being carried out under the leadership of Siliguri Police Commissioner Syed Waquar Raza. Traffic DCP Quazi Samsuddin Ahamed informed that the Kolkata team will help streamline the city’s traffic system and reduce traffic congestion.
He further stated that several measures are being taken under the instructions of the new state government and Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari to improve traffic management. Awareness campaigns have also been launched for the public.
As part of the initiative to prevent road accidents, speed detection cameras have been installed in the Eastern Bypass area. These cameras will monitor speeding vehicles and issue challans to violators. Similar cameras are expected to be installed in other parts of the city in the coming days.
