Siliguri, 14th May: Darjeeling MP Raju Bista announced that 24 JCB machines are being brought from Uttar Pradesh to carry out action against illegal constructions in Siliguri. He stated that bulldozer action will be taken against all identified illegal structures once the machines arrive.
Speaking to the media after an administrative meeting at the Sub-Divisional Officer’s office, the MP said the process of identifying illegal constructions has already begun. He warned that those involved in illegal construction activities should remove the structures on their own, otherwise strict action would be taken.
Several civic and law-and-order related issues concerning Siliguri were discussed during the meeting, which was attended by the Police Commissioner, District Magistrate, Darjeeling SP and other officials.
Raju Bista further claimed that he has a list of people allegedly involved in narcotics trafficking in the city and said necessary instructions have been given to the police administration to make Siliguri drug-free.
He also spoke about stopping alleged extortion from small traders, taking action against illegal toll plazas and shutting down illegal liquor shops, pubs and bars. The MP said the present government will not tolerate any kind of illegal activities and strict legal action will be taken against offenders.
