Sister attempts to save younger brother after he falls into river, both die in Siliguri

According to reports, Riya and Rishav were on their way to their maternal grandmother’s house after crossing the Panchnai Bridge on Saturday afternoon. During the journey, mud reportedly got stuck on Rishav’s feet, following which he went towards the river to clean them.

However, he allegedly slipped and fell into the river before being swept away by the current. Seeing her brother being carried away, Riya entered the river in an attempt to save him. She too was swept away by the water.

Acting swiftly, local residents rescued both children from the Panchanai Colony area under Ward No. 01 and rushed them to Siliguri District Hospital. However, both were declared dead at the hospital.

The incident has left the family devastated, while a wave of grief has spread across the entire locality.
