Siliguri, 19th June: Continuous heavy rainfall has led to severe waterlogging in large parts of Ward No. 46 under Siliguri Municipal Corporation, causing major inconvenience to residents and triggering public anger.
According to local sources, several areas were inundated after heavy rain throughout Thursday night. In the early hours, residents reportedly visited the councillor’s residence seeking a solution, but he was not present.
Residents also alleged that the councillor remained unreachable on Friday morning, with his phone switched off. With no immediate drainage measures in place, frustration among locals continued to grow.
Locals stated that the issue is not new and that similar waterlogging occurs every monsoon without any permanent solution being implemented. On Friday morning, residents gathered outside the councillor’s residence and staged a protest demanding immediate action.
Amid the situation, residents claimed that JCB machines were deployed under the leadership of opposition leader Amit Jain of Siliguri Municipal Corporation, which helped in reducing waterlogging to some extent.
Residents have warned that if the issue is not resolved, they will demand the councillor’s resignation. Attempts to contact Ward Councillor Dilip Barman remained unsuccessful as no response was received.
