Siliguri, 19th June: Continuous heavy rainfall has severely affected Ward No. 13 under Siliguri Municipal Corporation, with widespread waterlogging and poor drainage conditions causing major inconvenience to residents.
According to local reports, several areas witnessed overflowing drains, broken drainage walls, and accumulation of garbage, leading to worsening conditions across the ward.
The situation was particularly critical in the Sevoke Road area, where rainwater entered the ground floor of a shopping mall, damaging multiple shops located on the lower level.
Residents expressed anger over the absence of the local councillor, alleging lack of response and accountability amid the crisis.
On Friday, Siliguri Municipal Corporation Leader of Opposition Amit Jain visited the affected areas to assess the situation. He interacted with affected residents and reviewed the conditions on the ground.
He also contacted municipal officials over the phone, urging immediate steps to resolve the issues and restore normal conditions.
Amit Jain stated that while rainfall has occurred earlier as well, the situation in the past two days has been unprecedented. He further alleged complete failure of the municipal body in addressing drainage issues, leading to the present crisis.
