Siliguri, 20th June: Following the resignation of Gautam Deb as Mayor of Siliguri Municipal Corporation, a series of resignations has begun within the civic body, with MMICs and councillors stepping down from their respective posts.
Ward No. 41 Councillor Shivika Mittal has announced her decision to resign from the councillor’s post. Ward No. 46 Councillor Dilip Barman has also reportedly submitted his resignation.
Meanwhile, Manik Dey, MMIC in charge of the conservancy department of Siliguri Municipal Corporation, has resigned from his post.
After submitting his resignation, Manik Dey said there was no justification for MMICs to continue in office after Gautam Deb stepped down as Mayor. He stated, “We are all nominated by the Mayor. When the Mayor is no longer in office, there is no question of us continuing in our posts. That is why I have resigned.”
Meanwhile, it remains unclear whether a new Mayor will be elected in Siliguri Municipal Corporation or whether the state government will appoint an administrator to run the civic body.
Political observers believe a final decision on the future administration of the corporation may emerge within the next few days.
