Siliguri, 16th May: Siliguri Metropolitan Police has achieved major success in solving several theft cases reported across the city in recent months, with arrests made and stolen property recovered.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, DCP Rana Mukherjee provided details of multiple cases in which arrests have been made and stolen items recovered.
According to police, two major theft incidents were reported in January and February. In one case, computers and other essential equipment were stolen from a BSF camp, while in another incident, a motorcycle was stolen from the Sevoke Road military station area. During the investigation, Bhakti Nagar Police Station arrested a notorious thief, Rakesh Mistry, and recovered the stolen items along with the motorcycle.
In a separate case from the Ashighar area, cash amounting to around ₹4.5 lakh along with gold jewellery was stolen from a house. Police arrested Kumar Roy in connection with the case. Although the entire cash amount was not recovered, around ₹3.15 lakh and all stolen gold jewellery were recovered.
DCP Rana Mukherjee stated that both accused, Rakesh Mistry and Kumar Roy, have been arrested in three separate cases and sent on remand. He also added that investigations into other pending theft cases are underway and further arrests are expected soon.
