Siliguri, 16th May: Tension gripped the Tikiapara area of Siliguri after two BJP workers were allegedly attacked while carrying out a campaign against drug trade on Friday night.
According to local sources, residents of the area have been living under fear and frustration for a long time due to the ongoing drug menace in the locality. In response, BJP leaders and workers launched an anti-drug campaign in the area.
During the campaign, a group of miscreants reportedly confronted the BJP workers and brutally assaulted them. The injured workers were rescued by locals and taken to the District Hospital in critical condition for treatment.
Following the incident, Siliguri Police initiated action and arrested several accused persons in connection with the attack.
On Saturday morning, Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh visited the hospital to meet the injured workers. After speaking with them, the MLA said he had also discussed the matter with the police administration.
The injured BJP workers reportedly broke down in tears during the meeting. Assuring them of full support, the MLA stated that the drug trade in the area would not be tolerated and strict action would be taken against those involved in the attack.
