Siliguri, 13th May: A brazen theft incident reported from the Khudiram Pally area near Siliguriās Eastern Bypass, cash worth several lakhs and gold jewellery were allegedly stolen from a residence while the family was away.
According to reports, the homeowner had gone to a relativeās house with his family last Sunday. Upon returning home on Tuesday evening, the family discovered the theft and immediately informed the police of the Ashighar Outpost.
After receiving the complaint, police reached the spot and launched an investigation into the incident.
The homeowner stated that around ā¹ 4.5 lakh in cash, along with several gold ornaments, had been kept inside an almirah. The miscreants reportedly stole nearly ā¹ 4.2 lakh in cash and some gold jewellery. Several important documents were also found missing from the house.
Curiously, the main door and locks of the house were found intact leaving both the family and local residents puzzled. Even the tin roofing showed no visible signs of tampering, raising questions about how the thieves managed to enter the house.
Local sources further revealed that a similar theft incident had taken place earlier at a neighbouring residence. Following the latest incident, panic has spread among residents of the area.
