Siliguri, 11th May: A brazen theft case in Siliguri has been solved with the arrest of one accused by NJP police. The arrested person has been identified as Deepak Das.
According to police sources, Chandan Saha, a resident of Shitalapara area under Ward No. 31 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation, had withdrawn a large sum of money from the bank and kept it at home as it was intended for further payment. Taking advantage of the situation, miscreants broke into the house late on 20 April while the family was asleep and fled with cash worth lakhs and around 9 bhori of gold jewellery.
Following the incident, a written complaint was lodged at NJP police station. Based on the complaint, police initiated an investigation and arrested Deepak Das on Sunday. During interrogation, the accused reportedly admitted his involvement in the theft, although the stolen cash and gold ornaments have not yet been recovered.
The accused was produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Monday. Police investigation is ongoing.
