Alipurduar, 28th November: Traffic came to a standstill on National Highway 31 in the Garam Basti area of Alipurduar district after an elephant appeared on the road and halted vehicular movement for about an hour.
Elephants from a herd frequently roam in the Dooars region, and sometimes wander onto highways, causing significant delays. On Thursday, around 10:30 AM, an elephant suddenly emerged from the Buxa project forest and onto the national highway. As vehicles came to a halt, a long queue of trucks and other vehicles quickly built up on both sides of the road.
Meanwhile, onlookers began to gather on the road to film the elephant, further disrupting traffic.
