Siliguri, 30th April: A major theft incident has come to light from the Prakash Nagar area of Siliguri, where burglars targeted three houses in a single night, triggering panic among residents.
According to reports, the incident took place in New Prakash Nagar under Ward No. 43 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation. Miscreants allegedly broke into three rented houses, taking advantage of the fact that the women residents were away at work during the day, leaving the houses unoccupied.
The burglars reportedly decamped with gold and silver jewellery worth lakhs along with around Rs 20,000 in cash from the three houses. The house inmates said the stolen items were accumulated over years of hard work.
On receiving information, Bhakti Nagar Police reached the spot and initiated an investigation. Police are questioning locals and have launched a search operation to trace those involved.
Residents alleged that such incidents are now taking place not only at night but also during the day, creating a sense of fear in the area. They have demanded increased police patrolling and swift action against the culprits.
Police said the investigation is underway and efforts are being made to strengthen security arrangements in the locality.
