Siliguri, 28th April: An elephant herd has been repeatedly entering the Nepali Basti area of Farabari near Siliguri, triggering panic among residents. The animals are reportedly venturing into the locality in search of food.
Despite their frequent movement in the area, no incidents of damage or attacks have been reported so far. The herd roams around for some time before returning to the forest.
Officials from the Dabgram Range stated that elephants usually come out in search of food during nighttime. The situation is being closely monitored, and efforts are being made to ensure that no untoward incidents occur. Residents have been advised to remain cautious and stay in touch with the forest department.
