Siliguri, 27th April: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, SOG and Matigara police arrested two persons, including a woman, and recovered 401 grams of brown sugar during a joint operation in the city. Acting on a tip-off, the team conducted a raid in the Paribahan Nagar area on Sunday night and intercepted a suspicious man and woman. During the search, police also recovered ₹10,000 in cash and three mobile phones from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Banu Begum (30), a resident of Totaram Jote in Naxalbari, and Mohammad Idris Ali (36), a resident of Vishwas Colony in Matigara. Both were arrested on the spot and booked under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
They were produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional court, where police sought their remand for further investigation. Police are also probing the possible involvement of other members in the drug trafficking network.
