Rajganj, 20th May: Former Rajganj MLA Khageswar Roy legally remarried his wife after 52 years of marriage to complete documentation required for receiving MLA pension benefits.
On Wednesday, Roy arrived in Jalpaiguri with his wife and completed the marriage legally following all official procedures. The incident has sparked widespread discussion among political circles and the general public.
According to sources, the former MLA had recently applied for pension under the MLA quota in Kolkata. During the application process, he was asked to submit a marriage certificate. However, despite sharing a long marital life, the couple did not possess legal marriage registration documents, leading to the pension process being stalled.
Following this, Roy decided to solemnise the marriage legally. On Wednesday, the couple completed the legal marriage formalities in Jalpaiguri.
It is learnt that the couple had originally married around 52 years ago following social customs, but the marriage was never officially registered.
