Siliguri, 10th June: Public anger is growing over the waterlogging situation in the Champasari area of Ward No. 46 under the Siliguri Municipal Corporation. Following heavy rainfall, Anandamoy Colony was inundated, forcing several families to leave their homes and take shelter on the road.
Upset over the situation, local residents had staged a road blockade on Champasari Main Road demanding a solution to the long-standing problem.
Amid the unrest, an incident involving councillor Dilip Barman came to light on Wednesday when he visited the area to assess the situation.
According to allegations, an unidentified person hurled an egg at the councillor during the inspection. The egg reportedly struck his body before falling onto the road.
The incident triggered political reactions. BJP’s Siliguri organisational leader Manna Bhadra claimed that the incident reflected public anger over the lack of basic civic amenities and was not part of any political conspiracy.
However, councillor Dilip Barman rejected the claim and alleged that BJP workers were behind the incident. He said it was wrong to portray the episode as an expression of public anger.
Meanwhile, pressure is mounting on the administration over the waterlogging issue and the incident. Local residents continue to demand a permanent solution to the recurring problem.
