Siliguri, 10th June: Heavy rainfall on Tuesday night left Anandamoy Colony near Champasari More in Ward No. 46 of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation waterlogged, causing severe hardship for residents.
According to local sources, rainwater entered several houses in the area, forcing residents to leave their homes and take shelter on the road during the night.
Angered by the situation, local residents staged a protest and blocked Champasari Main Road for a brief period. They alleged that despite the problem persisting for years, the administration has failed to take any effective steps towards a permanent solution.
After receiving information about the blockade, police from Pradhannagar Police Station reached the spot. Officers spoke with the protesters, brought the situation under control and cleared the road blockade, following which traffic movement resumed.
Residents warned that if a permanent solution to the long-standing waterlogging problem is not implemented this time, they will launch a larger movement
They said the area faces the same problem every monsoon and that they now want a lasting solution rather than assurances.
The waterlogging caused significant inconvenience to residents after rainwater entered several homes. BJP leaders also visited the area after receiving information about the situation, following which work was initiated to restore normal drainage.
