Siliguri, 25th April: Allegations of mob assault have surfaced from the Uttar Ektiasal Pipeline area of Siliguri, where two individuals were reportedly beaten on suspicion of cattle theft. The incident led to the death of one person, while another remains in critical condition, creating tension in the area.
According to reports, panic over suspected cattle thieves had spread in the locality since late Friday night. On Saturday morning, two individuals were detained by local residents on suspicion and allegedly tied to a pole before being severely beaten.
On receiving information, police from Ashighar Outpost reached the spot and rescued the injured. They were taken to Siliguri District Hospital, where doctors declared one person dead. The other individual is currently undergoing treatment in critical condition.
Preliminary information suggests that both individuals are residents of the Islampur area, although their identities are yet to be confirmed. Following the incident, heavy police and central forces have been deployed in the area. Police have detained several persons for questioning and have initiated an investigation into the matter.
