Siliguri, 18th May: Tension prevailed after a woman approached the police alleging prolonged domestic violence by her husband and in-laws in Siliguri.
According to reports, Pooja Bansal, a resident of the S.F. Road area, got married around 10 years ago to Ankit Mittal, a resident of the Siliguri Checkpost area. She alleged that since marriage, her husband used to physically assault her while under the influence of alcohol. The woman also accused her mother-in-law of mental harassment and claimed that she was not allowed to express her opinions within the family.
The couple has two children. Recently, when Pooja fell ill and was admitted to hospital, she alleged that neither her husband nor any member of her in-laws’ family visited her. Later, her family members brought her back home from the hospital.
According to the complaint, when she attempted to return to her in-laws’ house after recovery, she was allegedly prevented from entering and asked to bring a court notice. Left with no alternative, she approached the police seeking help. The woman further alleged that her husband is currently absconding with their two children.
On Monday, family members and local residents visited the in-laws’ residence but allegedly found nobody there. Later, they approached Bhakti Nagar Police Station demanding immediate action and the return of the children to their mother.
Police have started an investigation into the matter.
