Siliguri, 14th May: In a major drug bust, the Special Operation Group (SOG) and undercover officers from NJP police station arrested two individuals with brown sugar and cash worth over ₹1.5 lakh on Tuesday night. The accused have been identified as Akhtar Sheikh and Sapu Sheikh, both residents of Malda.
Acting on a tip-off, the police team intercepted a bike on Asian Highway 2, near Biswa Bangla Shilpi Haat in Kawakhali, as it was traveling from Medical College to Naukaghat. Upon searching the two men on the bike, authorities recovered 700 grams of brown sugar along with a significant amount of cash.
According to police sources, the brown sugar was being transported from Malda for delivery in the Fulbari area. Following the arrest, both accused were presented before the Jalpaiguri court on Wednesday.
