Alipurduar, 19th January: A tragic road accident claimed the life of a person while injuring another in Taleshwarguri Chowpathi adjacent to Alipurduar.
Reportedly, Sujan Mahto, a resident of Bado Chowkirbas area and Dipankar Barman, a resident of the Chhoto Chowkirbas area were returning home from Alipurduar on a motorbike around 11 pm on Wednesday. They suddenly lost control and rammed into a tree on the side of the road in the said area. Hearing the loud noise, the locals reached the spot and informed the police. As soon as the news was received, the police reached the spot and rescued both, and took them to the hospital, where the doctors declared Sujan Mahato brought dead. Whereas, Dipankar Barman was taken to a private hospital in Cooch Behar at night.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom in the area. Police have sent the body to Alipurduar District Hospital for postmortem. Police are probing the entire incident.
