Rajganj, 07th August: Local commuters are facing difficulty travelling after the approach road collapsed between Bandhunagar-Kalinagar paved route blocking the culvert. The incident led to a traffic disruption in the area.
On Tuesday night, a major portion of the culvert in the Hariya Bari area collapsed, impacting the transportation of the Majhiyali Gram Panchayat area in Rajganj. Consequently, residents are gripped with panic due to the dilapidated condition of the culvert as it could collapse at any moment.
Locals explained that the route connecting Bandhunagar and Kalinagar was a significant route of communication in the area as thousands of cars and people used the road for traveling. Locals feared that the culvert posed a threat as it collapsed leading to a major accident. As a result, they urged the immediate repair of the culvert.
In response, Majhiali Gram Panchayat Pradhan Sumit Dutta stated that the culvert was built under the Prime Minister Rural Roads Scheme. At the moment, the culvert required a substantial budget for its restoration work which could not be built by the local panchayat. Rajganj BDO and Jalpaiguri District Council have already been informed and an immediate resolution has been assured in this matter.
