Cooch Behar, 07th October: Bangladesh handed over two bodies washed away by the devastating flash flood in Teesta River. Following the Sikkim disaster, several houses and individuals were washed away.
According to reports, the locals spotted the bodies floating in the river in Lalmonirhat, Bangladesh. Upon being informed by the locals, the Lalmonirhat police recovered the bodies. Subsequently, the Border Security Force (BSF) of India was informed. Following this, the formalities of bringing back the bodies to India commenced.
On Friday night, a flag meeting was organized between the two countries at Choudhari village of Karnpur in Lalmonirhat police station of Bangladesh across the Gitaldaha border between India and Bangladesh. As per information, the Assistant Commandant of BSF’s 90th battalion, police officers, and top BSF officials were present in the meeting.
After all the legal procedures, the bodies were handed over to India. According to Cooch Behar District police sources, the identities of the two bodies are yet to be ascertained. At present, further investigations are underway.
