Water level of Teesta River in Cooch Behar rises, efforts underway to move residents to safer locations

Cooch Behar, 4^th October: The water level of Teesta River is on the rise in Cooch Behar. Consequently, a significant portion of an area of Mekhliganj in the Cooch Behar district has been swept away by the river. Following the disastrous flash flood in Sikkim, the water level of the Teesta River has also increased in North Bengal.

As per reports, several areas along the Teesta River were submerged following the flash flood in Sikkim. Subsequently, the residents of the area adjacent to the Teesta River are being transported to a safer location.

In addition to the administration, the Border Security Force (BSF) has also extended its support in the rescue. Currently, the evacuation process is on to relocate the residents of the Kuchlibari area in the Mekhliganj block of the Cooch Behar district. Personnel of the 40th Battalion of the BSF are engaged in a continued rescue operation in the Jalpaiguri sector. Meanwhile, a high alert has been issued in the area and all measures are being undertaken by the administration for the safety of the citizens.
