Siliguri, 22nd May: In a major crackdown on international drug trafficking, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), in coordination with Pradhan Nagar Police Station, conducted a raid in the Narmada Bagan area of Siliguri and recovered hydroponic weed along with other narcotic substances. Two persons, including a computer engineer, have been arrested in the case.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Saurabh Tigga (35) and Vikas Roy. Saurabh is a resident of Narmada Bagan, while Vikas hails from Dhaknikata. Reports suggest that Saurabh is a computer engineer by profession.
According to officials, the NCB acted on a specific intelligence input that a high-value drug operation was being run from a residential property in Siliguri. The raid revealed that hydroponic weed was being sourced from Bangkok, Thailand, and supplied locally.
During the search operation, 568 grams of hydroponic weed, 3.5 grams of heroin, and 122 pieces of narcotic substances were seized. The estimated market value of the seized contraband is around ₹20 lakh.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the drugs were being transported in small packets via Bagdogra Airport before being distributed across different parts of Siliguri. The seized consignment is believed to have recently arrived from Thailand.
Officials further stated that the network had plans to distribute these high-value narcotics across multiple locations in the city. Both accused have been arrested under the NDPS Act and are being interrogated to identify other members of the network.
Experts note that hydroponic weed is a high-grade and expensive form of cannabis cultivated in controlled environments and has significant international demand. The investigation is ongoing, and the accused will be produced before the Siliguri court.
