Siliguri, 16th May: A brazen burglary in the Hatiadanga area under the Ashighar Outpost of Siliguri has triggered panic among residents amid a series of theft incidents in the locality.
According to sources, the residents of the house were away for some work when miscreants took advantage of the situation. They allegedly broke through a window to enter the house and later forced open an almirah. Gold jewellery worth nearly ₹12 lakh along with cash was reportedly stolen before the accused fled the scene.
After receiving the information, police personnel from the Ashighar Outpost reached the spot and launched an investigation. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined to identify and trace the miscreants involved in the incident.
Meanwhile, repeated burglary cases in the area have left residents worried and fearful. Locals have demanded increased police patrolling and urged authorities to ensure the swift arrest of those responsible.
