Siliguri, 16th June: In the case involving the death of 21-year-old Sarika Rajput, a resident of Delhi, her younger sister has lodged a written complaint against the owner and manager of a restaurant-cum-bar, alleging prolonged mental and physical harassment. Police have initiated an investigation based on the complaint.
According to information received, Sarika had come to Siliguri from Delhi around two years ago and was working as a floor artist at a restaurant-cum-bar on Sevoke Road in Siliguri.
Sources said that on Sunday evening, police from Bhakti Nagar Police Station broke open the door of a locked rented room in the Sarkarpara area and recovered Sarika’s body hanging from a noose. The body was later sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for post-mortem examination.
The deceased’s younger sister alleged that Sarika had been subjected to mental and physical harassment for a long time by the manager of the establishment where she worked. She also expressed suspicion over the circumstances surrounding her sister’s death.
Based on these allegations, she filed a written complaint at Bhakti Nagar Police Station against the owner and manager of the restaurant-cum-bar.
Following the complaint, the management of the establishment has come under scrutiny. However, no official response has been issued by the management so far regarding the allegations.
