Siliguri, 15th June: State Tourism Minister and Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh on Monday formally assumed charge of the Tourism Department in Siliguri following his appointment to the portfolio.
Ghosh arrived at the Tourism Department office, where he was welcomed and felicitated by departmental officials. Speaking to reporters after taking charge, the minister said his primary objective is to promote North Bengal tourism on the global stage while making the tourism industry across West Bengal more vibrant and attractive.
He stated that efforts would be made to showcase Bengal’s tourism potential in a manner that earns it a distinct identity on the world map.
Referring to an important meeting scheduled for 17th June, Ghosh said several new proposals aimed at boosting the tourism sector would be presented. He added that these proposals would subsequently be placed before the state cabinet for consideration.
The minister also spoke about addressing several long-pending issues in the hills through administrative initiatives. He specifically highlighted the severe traffic congestion between Ghoom and Darjeeling, stating that the inconvenience faced by tourists due to the persistent traffic problem is being treated as a matter of priority by the department.
