While women passengers have welcomed the state government’s initiative, complaints have surfaced that certain private buses are operating under the name “NBST” and are painted in colours resembling those of government buses marked “NBSTC”.
According to the allegations, many women passengers are mistakenly boarding these buses assuming they are part of the free travel scheme, only to be charged fares later.
Protesting the issue, members of Bangiya Hindu Mahamancha submitted a memorandum to the Siliguri RTO office on Tuesday.
The organisation demanded immediate action to stop the alleged practice and urged authorities to take strict measures against those responsible.
Representatives of the organisation stated that misleading passengers in this manner is unacceptable and expressed hope that the administration will intervene quickly to resolve the issue.
