Fulbari, 15th June: A woman running a small roadside eatery in Fulbari was left devastated after thieves allegedly stole two gas cylinders and other essential items from her shop amid an ongoing gas shortage. The incident took place near the Fulbari bypass toll gate on the outskirts of Siliguri.
According to reports, Krishna Karmakar has been operating the eatery for nearly a decade to support her family. Despite suffering from health issues, she earns her livelihood by selling tea, roti, and curry at the shop every day.
Karmakar said she closed the shop on Saturday night and returned home. As the eatery remained closed on Sunday, she arrived on Monday morning only to find the lock broken. Miscreants had allegedly broken into the shop and stolen two gas cylinders. Several other items were also reported missing, including her insulin medication, which had been stored in the shop’s refrigerator.
Karmakar broke down in tears, saying that the eatery is her family’s only source of income. She expressed concern over how she would continue running the business and support her family without the stolen cylinders, especially given her poor health and financial struggles.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident on the same night, a motorcycle was reportedly stolen from the residence of Rahul Amin in the Badlagach area of Fulbari.
A complaint has been lodged at the New Jalpaiguri Police Station regarding the incidents, and police have launched an investigation.
