Fulbari, 15th May: Toll collection has once again resumed at the Fulbari Bypass. Following the political change in the state, BJP supporters had allegedly forced the suspension of toll collection at the toll plaza.
The BJP had alleged that money was being illegally collected from vehicle drivers for a long time in the name of the Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA). Allegations were made that amounts ranging from Rs 100 to Rs 500 were being collected from small and large goods vehicles as well as passenger vehicles. As a result, toll collection on the Fulbari-Ghoshpukur Bypass had remained suspended since May 4.
According to SJDA, the closure of toll collection was causing revenue loss to the government. Following this, the authority sought administrative intervention and security support.
On Friday, the toll plaza was reopened in the presence of New Jalpaiguri Police personnel, and toll collection resumed.
