Siliguri, 18th March: Siliguri is set to get its first animal crematorium, addressing a long-standing demand from residents and animal lovers. The facility will provide a designated space for cremating deceased animals.
On Tuesday, the budget for the upcoming financial year was presented at the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, which included a proposal to establish the crematorium.
Currently, the absence of an animal crematorium poses challenges for pet owners and residents. Unlike major cities that have such facilities, Siliguri lacked one until now. Many people keep pets like dogs and cats, but in the absence of a proper cremation site, deceased animals are often buried in open spaces.
To ensure a respectful and hygienic method of animal cremation, the proposal has been put forward. The construction of the crematorium is estimated to cost around ₹1 crore.
