Kolkata, 06th June: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday assured that work on the proposed bullet train project would be carried out at a fast pace, reducing travel time between Delhi and Siliguri to around six hours.

The announcement came during a meeting at Nabanna with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, where several railway projects and infrastructure plans for West Bengal were discussed.
Vaishnaw said that the bullet train project, announced in this year’s budget, would be taken forward expeditiously. Discussions were also held on several railway projects in the state that have remained stalled for a long time.
The Railway Minister further stated that railway projects worth nearly ₹1 lakh crore would be undertaken in West Bengal this year. He also announced that Kolkata Metro would receive 60 new-generation trains over the next five years.
Among other key developments, Vaishnaw highlighted the proposed Dankuni-Surat freight corridor and said that 102 Amrit Bharat stations would be developed across West Bengal. Plans for the construction of flyovers and underpasses were also discussed during the meeting.
