Alipurduar, 04th February: On Tuesday, the Alipurduar police destroyed an illegal poppy cultivation field near the Gadadhar River in the Dakshin Salsalabari 4-mile area. The operation was based on a tip-off received by the authorities.
Reportedly, a group of miscreants had been secretly cultivating poppies under the cover of brinjal fields near the river. Upon receiving this information, a police team from Alipurduar station launched a raid on the site.
The police destroyed approximately 14 bighas of poppy fields using a tractor. The operation was led by Alipurduar’s Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Srinivas MP, and Alipurduar P.S. IC Anirban Bhattacharya, along with other senior police officials.
