Siliguri, 15th April: In a distressing incident, a man has been accused of hacking his friend to death with a sharp weapon for ₹200. The incident took place on Monday night in Porajhar area adjacent to Siliguri city.
The deceased has been identified as Sajal Karmakar (48). He was a laborer by profession. On the other hand, the accused has been identified as Montu Barman.
Reportedly, Sajal Karmakar had borrowed money from the accused. Even after settling the remaining amount, ₹200 was left. On Monday night, a fight broke out between the two in an inebriated state over the money.
During this, Montu Barman allegedly attacked Sajal Karmakar with a knife. He was rushed to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH), where the doctors declared him dead.
After the incident, Shukla Saha, the daughter of the deceased, filed a written complaint against Montu Barman at the New Jalpaiguri Police Station.
Upon receiving the complaint was received, the New Jalpaiguri Police Station started investigating the incident. During the investigation, the accused Montu Barman was arrested. The arrested accused was produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Tuesday.
