Phansidewa, 15th May: Police from the Ghoshpukur outpost foiled an alleged attempt of illegal sand mining and smuggling from the Chenga River in the Phansidewa area and seized a sand-laden lorry during a raid.
According to police sources, sand was being illegally extracted from the Chenga River and transported towards Raiganj. Acting on a tip-off, police launched an operation in the area.
However, the driver abandoned the lorry at the spot and managed to flee before police could apprehend him. During a search of the vehicle, officials reportedly failed to find any valid documents related to the transportation of the sand, following which the lorry was seized.
Police stated that similar operations will continue in the coming days to curb illegal sand mining and smuggling activities in the region. Meanwhile, a search operation has been initiated to trace the absconding driver and the owner of the seized lorry.
