Darjeeling, 24th August: In response to the tragic murder of a minor girl in Matigara, the recently formed political organization, Gorkha Seva Sena (GSS), has announced a 12-hour bandh (shutdown) scheduled for August 26th in the Hills region. The strike aims to protest against the heinous crime and express solidarity with the Gorkha community.
Vikram Adi Rai, a prominent member of GSS, emphasized that the strike is not being enforced but rather a call for voluntary participation from the Gorkha community. He drew attention to the recent support shown by the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) in Siliguri, which he claimed demonstrated a broader backing for the Gorkhas even though political motives might be involved.
