Kharibari, 22nd December: Kharibari police busted a major drug trafficking operation involving cannabis worth approximately ₹1 crore, seizing a large consignment concealed inside a container with a specially built secret chamber.
According to police sources, acting on specific intelligence inputs, Kharibari police conducted a raid at the PWD More area after receiving information that cannabis was being smuggled from Assam to Bihar in a Haryana-registered container vehicle. The container was intercepted and detained during the operation.
Upon thorough inspection, police recovered a total of 694 kilograms of cannabis packed in 75 packets from the hidden chamber inside the container. The seized contraband is estimated to have a market value of around ₹1 crore.
The container driver, identified as Akbar Ali, was arrested in connection with the case. He will be produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court.
Speaking on the matter, SDPO Naxalbari Saumyajit Roy stated that the operation was carried out following the directive of the Superintendent of Police as part of an ongoing district-wide crackdown against drug trafficking.
He added that similar anti-narcotics operations will continue in the coming days to make the district drug-free.
