Darjeeling, 08th January: Darjeeling Member of Parliament (MP) Raju Bista, through a press release, has announced 25 new rural road projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), valued at ₹159 crores in the districts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong, including the Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad.
These projects will build a total of 194.33 km of rural roads at a cost of over ₹159.1 crores. The planned roads include routes such as Gidda Pahar to Rohini, Koilagodam to Jogighat, and Mungpoo PWD Road to Takdah Cantonment, among others.
MP Bista emphasized the importance of ensuring transparency during the construction phase and urged people, particularly those involved in social organizations, NGOs, and political parties, to form monitoring committees for conducting social audits. He stated that public funds sent by the Central Government through the PMGSY must be utilized efficiently, and local oversight will play a crucial role in preventing corruption.
Bista called upon MLAs, GTA Sabhasads, Mahakuma Parishad Members, Panchayat Samiti Members, Gram Panchayat Members, and citizens to actively engage in overseeing the projects to ensure they serve the best interests of the rural communities.
