Rajganj, 02nd July: Political tension flared in Rajganj’s Binnaguri Gram Panchayat after the CPI(M) distributed leaflets accusing a recently defected panchayat member and her husband of betrayal. The controversy involves Deepika Roy, an elected CPI(M) panchayat member from the Kamatpara booth, who along with her husband Jira Mohan Roy, joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on 22nd June.
According to the leaflet circulated by CPI(M), Deepika Roy did not inform the public before switching parties, despite being elected with their support, which the party termed a breach of trust. CPI(M) also claimed that prior to her defection, her husband alleged that the TMC pressured him through false molestation charges and threats of arrest. However, upon verifying with the local police, CPI(M) leaders found no such case had been filed, dismissing it as a fabricated excuse for political gain.
