Unlike traditional rituals led by priests, this puja is performed by ‘Dhamis’, who conduct the rituals in the local language. It takes place seven days after the main Kali Puja celebration.
According to members of the puja committee, the event initially took place beneath a ‘Sheora Tree’, but a permanent temple was later constructed at the site. The tradition has always involved the ‘Dhamis’, distinguishing it from other Kali Pujas in the region. Each year, more than two hundred goats and over a thousand pigeons are sacrificed as part of the ritual offerings.
Devotees from across North Bengal flock to the temple, believing that worshiping the goddess here will fulfill their wishes. In addition to the religious observances, the puja committee will also distribute mosquito nets.
