Rajganj, 28th May: In a major breakthrough, Belakoba Outpost police rescued eight buffaloes from an alleged smuggling attempt late Tuesday night. The animals were rescued from a freight vehicle travelling from Sardar Para to Manthani.
Acting on a tip-off, the police intercepted the vehicle and upon inspection, found the buffaloes inside. The driver, identified as Sandeep Sarkar, a resident of Jalpaiguri, was arrested on the spot.
He was produced before the Jalpaiguri District Court on Wednesday. Meanwhile, police have launched a detailed investigation to uncover the full extent of the smuggling operation.
