Rajganj, 12th April: A teenager died while taking a holy bath in Kundar Dighi of Rajganj block. The deceased has been identified as Bapi Roy (14). The deceased teenager was a ninth-grade student of Ambari-Falakata Chinta Mohan High School.
According to local and family sources, ‘Ganga Snan’ and fairs have been organized in Kundar Dighi of Shikarpur Gram Panchayat for many years. ‘Ganga Snan’ is held on Saturdays and fairs on Sundays. On that occasion, many people take a holy dip in the pond next to the puja premises since Saturday morning.
Reportedly, Bapi Roy of the area had gone to bathe in the pond with a friend. At that time, he tragically drowned in the deep water of the pond. But his friend got scared and went home without informing anyone around him. Upon getting the information, the locals quickly rushed to the rescue. He was immediately taken to a private hospital in Fulbari and later to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH), where the doctors on duty declared him dead.
Family members and several locals have alleged that the police and the puja committee were not vigilant in the puja premises. The family of the deceased has pointed the finger of complaint at the puja committee in this incident. The Belakoba Outpost police have started an investigation into the incident.
